Drug use in neighborhood parks...

I want to reach out to other people in the neighborhood.  I moved to Clifton in April with my family - my partner and 2 y/o daughter.  I have run into drug use at neighborhood parks two of the last three times I have gone with my daughter.  I love the neighborhood, but am beginning to worry about the public spaces.  Is there a neighborhood watch or are people interested in forming one.  I want to have public spaces where I feel comfortable bringing my child to.  I worry about the young kids who use the park (Bingham) for basketball or just to play because people seem unabashed to use in the middle of the day and early evening.

Forgive us! I saw your post on www.nextdoor.com but didn't realize you'd posted here as well.  You probably know that the council is having its board meeting on Tuesday the 11th at 6:30pm upstairs at the Clifton Center. Our metro councilperson Bill Hollander is planning to attend and bring a representative from the LMPD with him to address your concerns and close-by neighbors who have echoed what you're saying. We're going to learn if we can hope for CCTV cameras in Bingham Park and the Chicken Steps - or what our options truly are.

I hope you're able to attend. If you can't, just call me at 276-3751 on Wednesday and I'll tell you what we hear.

Meanwhile, I'm going to copy your message and give it to all the people at the meeting.

I also wonder if you know there's a beautiful children's playground/one acre park in Clifton at 133 N. Charleton Street? It's sort of off the beaten path and neighbors there keep a watchful eye.

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for the response and letting me know about the meeting on the 11th.  I remember seeing that the meeting was in early August, but I did not know that this issue would be discussed.  I plan to be there.  I emailed Bill Hollander around the time I posted and he was great in responding.  I look forward to hearing what might be done to make the great parks in the neighborhood safer.

I also look forward to meeting you and more nieghbors!  Thanks again for reaching out.

Best,

Ruby
